Anathema for many more. If money makes the mare go, then exercise makes the blood flow. Physical fitness not only builds muscle but also keeps every tissue in our body in good condition. Good exercise ensures oxygen and nutrition supply through the blood to every tissue in the body. This helps maintain the body in prime condition. Don't forget, the brain too needs a very robust circulation. Get off that butt if you don't wish to spend the better part of your life going in and out of hospitals, laboratories and doctors clinics. Taking a brisk 4-5 kms walk is a must, at least 5 times a week. Yes there are many `authorities' and news reports which may suggest the equivalent of twiddling your thumbs is sufficient exercise; you may believe this at your own peril.

Sleep is an oft ignored necessity. Today's executives especially have to meet deadlines (ever wondered how this word was coined?) and travel across time zones frequently, depriving the body of much needed rest. Sleeping at odd hours and under the influence of sleep-inducing drugs is no substitute for the biological requirement. Studies have shown that executives who are fitness freaks and cheat on sleep can have their life tragically shortened and without warning, while all their blood tests and other fitness markers are well within normal limits. Disturbing the biological clock too frequently and without heed to the body's sleep requirement can be calamitous. The body requires an average of eight hours of sound sleep of which the RMS portion (Rapid-eye Movement Sleep) is the most crucial and occurs generally between 3am and 6 am.
